Eye Protection and UV Rays
Every day here in Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley weather it is sunny or cloudy and in any season, you will be exposed to the damaging ultraviolet rays from the sun. It can be easy to forget that UV radiation is invisible to the naked eye.
Did you know…
- UV rays can cause “sunburn” on the eye’s surface? This burn can then cause benign yellowish growths on the human eye.
- Prolonged exposure to harmful UVA and UVB radiation over time can be a contributing factor to multiple serious eye conditions and eye diseases which can lead to decreased vision and even loss of vision.
- Here in Northern Colorado, some of these eye diseases include cataracts and macular degeneration, the leading causes of blindness in people over age 60
- Only lens materials or lens treatments that promise 100% protection against both UVA and UVB rays protect your eyes fully from the harmful rays of the sun. Make having 100% UV protection a requirement for all of your eye wear.
